🤭 When an airline’s website is translated by a machine and not proofread by a human…
While booking plane tickets for an upcoming team event, we were quite confused by the Romanian version of a famous airline’s website 😶🌫️.
“𝟮 𝗛𝗢𝗨𝗥𝗦 𝗟𝗘𝗙𝗧” was translated as “𝟮 𝗢𝗥𝗘 𝗦𝗧𝗔𝗡𝗚𝗔”.
Ouch.
In Romanian, “stângă” refers to “left” in the sense of a direction (left vs. right). 🔄
But here, “left” was obviously used as a synonym for “remaining”, for which, in Romanian, you can use “rămase”, in this case.
Even as seasoned linguists, it took us 1 second to correlate this with a poor translation and understand the actual meaning. 🤨
One more reason to have your text localized by professionals, or in this case, checked by any human being. 🤦♀️
